About The Artist
Anna Strang
Thank you for being here. It means so much to share my work and my story.
Here's a little about me.
I’m Anna, and I live in Central Montana with my husband, Scott, our two young children, Sadie and Cooper, and our dogs, Avy and Diesel.
Finding Montana
After college, in 2018, Scott and I were living in our first apartment together in a suburb of Boston. We were happy but we both envisioned a different lifestyle for ourselves. When the time was right, we picked up and moved west to Colorado.
In 2020, we got our first dog, a lab, who we (mostly Scott) trained to be a bird dog. We quickly fell in love with upland hunting, and spent many of our weekends driving out to Eastern Colorado for hunting and training.
Just two years later, in 2022, our newfound hobby led us to visit Central Montana for a month of upland hunting. We worked remotely at our jobs during the days and hunted in the late afternoons and on the weekends. During that month we fell in love with Central Montana- with the landscape, the lifestyle, and the people.
In 2024, we made Central Montana home, and I feel like it's the place I am meant to be.
Finding Painting
I've always had an interest in art, but it was something I'd never leaned into.
Shortly before our move to Montana, I decided to try painting for the first time in my adult life.
For a few years, I had felt like I was missing something. While Scott and I loved hunting together, I didn't have my own "thing" that I was really into. I decided to give painting a try, thinking that it was something I could do at home in my bits and pieces of spare time.
I believe that what kept me coming back to painting in the beginning was the goal of capturing the feeling of the Montana landscape in my work.
While that continues to be a goal of mine, I have also grown to love the process of painting as much as the outcome.
Living in Montana and creating paintings inspired by the landscapes around me feel interconnected and like a path I was meant to find.
Appreciating the Present
I've come to understand that a meaningful life is built in the present, not someday in the future.
Painting reminds me of this. I love the process of painting, and I love how it brings me into the present moment.
If you choose to bring one of my pieces into your space, I hope that it serves as a gentle reminder to find moments of beauty and happiness right where you are.
